Tuesday Winter Storm "Stella" dumped well over a foot of snow on Highland Falls. Due to the forecast, the HFFD prepared for the storm in the days before by checking equipment, coordinating with other agencies, and planning. Based on the prediction of heavy snow and blizzard conditions at the height of the storm the department staffed a crew in the firehouse beginning at 6 AM Tuesday Morning. We maintained a crew in the firehouse for over 13 hours to ensure we could respond quickly to any calls for help. Luckily the department handled only 1 call during the storm. On Wednesday the department again assembled crews and set out around the Village to dig out covered hydrants. 3 Crews spent 2 hours checking and digging out all of the hydrants in the village to ensure they could be quickly located and used in the event of a fire. Thanks to all the volunteers who help out during the storm.
