Highland Falls Fire Fighter Arla James is on her way to becoming a full interior firefighting member of the HFFD. She recently completed the New York State OFPC Firefighter-1 certification at the Orange County Fire Training Center. This certification is delivered in two courses, Basic Exterior Fire Fighting Operations (BEFO) and Fire Fighter 1. All students begin with the Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations and then progress into the SCBA/ Interior Firefighting Operations course if they are seeking to be trained as an Interior Structural Firefighter who will wear a self- contained breathing apparatus. The total training time needed to obtain these two certifications requires a huge commitment and dedication by each firefighter as it is over 120 hrs in length over many months.
