Tuesday evening the Highland Falls Fire Department along with Fort Montgomery and West Point Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported dryer fire. The HFFD arrived within minutes and confirmed a fire in the laundromat. Quick work by responding firefighters confined the fire to the laundromat and limited damage. Firefighters searched the entire building to confirm everyone made it out safely. There were no injuries to the occupants or responding firefighters. Fort Montgomery assisted on scene with and Engine and Ladder truck and West Point responded with 2 engines. Cornwall and Stony Point fire departments stood by in the Highland Falls and Fort Montgomery Firehouses during the fire. The Orange County Fire Investigation Team responded and investigated the cause of the incident. The HFFD would like to remind our residents the importance of having working smoke detectors and an escape plan in place. More information on smoke detectors and escape planning is available by following the links below. Photos were provided by Mary Jane Pitt of the New of the Highlands.
